World TB day is observed annually on on March 24th to raise awareness about the global epidemic of tuberculosis (TB) and effort to eliminate the disease.Tb is caused by the bacterium mycobacterium tuberculosis and primarily affects the lungs, but can also affect other parts of the body.
According to the world health organization (WHO), TB is one of the top 10 causes of death, worldwide, and in 2020, an estimated 10 million people fell ill with TB and 1.5 million people died from the disease. TB please particularly particularly prevalent in low-and middle-income countries, and it is a leading cause of death among people living with HIV.
THE THEME FOR WORLD TB DAY 2023 IS "IT'S TIME: LET'S END TB!" . Emphasizes the need for accelerated action to eliminate TB globally.
The WHO has set a target to end TB epidemic by 2030, and the United Nations (UN) has include TB in its Sustainable Development Goals.
Efforts to eliminate TB involve a comprehensive approach that includes prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and care. prevention measures does vaccination reducing exposure toTB through infection control measures and addressing social determinants of health that contribute to TB, such as poverty and malnutrition.
Diagnosis of TB can be challenging as the symptoms are often non-specific and can be similar to other respiratory illnesses. Diagnostic test include chest X-ray, sputum Smear microscopy, and molecular tests.
In recent years, new diagnostic tools such as GeneXpert and the TB-LAMP test have been developed that provide rapid and accurate diagnosis of TB.
Treatment of TB typically involves a combination of antibiotics taken for at least 6 months.Adherence the treatment is critical to prevent the development of drug-resistant TB which is more difficult and expensive to treat care for people with TB include providing support for adherence to treatment, addressing a complication or co-morbidities, and addressing social and economic barriers to accessing care. Eliminating TB will require a sustained effort and investment from governments health systems, and international community, The UN high-level-meeting on TB in 2018 was a significant milestone in the global effort to eliminate TB and resulted in a political declaration that committed countries to accelerate progress towards ending TB.
On world TB day ,we honor the millions of people affected by TB and thoes working tirelessly to eliminate the disease. By raising awareness, investing in prevention and care, and advocating for political commitment and resources,we can end the TB epidemic and create a healthier, more equitabl world for all.
